Children’s teeth and jaws are still developing, which makes early orthodontic care an important step in guiding proper alignment. Kids’ braces are designed to gently correct spacing, bite issues, and crooked teeth while growth is still ongoing.
Addressing alignment issues early can prevent more complex dental problems later in life. As the jaw develops, braces can guide teeth into better positions, improving both function and appearance.
Early treatment may help with:
• Crowded or overlapping teeth
• Gaps between teeth
• Bite concerns
• Jaw alignment issues
There are different types of braces available, and the right option depends on your child’s dental condition.
• Traditional metal braces
• Tooth-coloured braces
• Early orthodontic appliances
Each option is selected based on comfort, effectiveness, and how your child’s teeth are developing.
Kids’ braces treatment is a gradual process designed to deliver consistent results over time.
Initial Assessment
Your child’s teeth and jaw development are carefully evaluated.
Treatment Planning
A personalised plan is created to suit their needs.
Braces Placement
Braces are fitted and adjusted over time to guide movement.
Ongoing Monitoring
Regular visits help ensure progress stays on track.
It’s normal for children to need a short adjustment period when braces are first placed.
• Start with soft foods
• Maintain good brushing habits
• Avoid sticky or hard foods
• Attend regular appointments
With time, braces become part of their routine, and improvements become more noticeable.

Tooth decay
If bacteria in plaque erodes the enamel surface of your tooth, this can expose the sensitive nerve endings within the underlying tooth structure (dentine) and can continue to infiltrate into the center of the tooth reaching the pulp
Gum disease
If plaque remains beneath the gum, it can damage the bone that supports your teeth and the roots of your teeth as well. This causes teeth to loosen and ache
Abscesses
Tooth decay and gum disease can cause an abscess to form below or alongside the tooth root, which causes pain and spreads infection
Trauma
If your tooth gets chipped or cracked, this can also expose the pulp and put you at risk of infection.
Impaction
If a tooth doesn’t emerge fully from the gums, it can irritate the surrounding nerves, causing pain. This is most common with wisdom teeth and other molars
Bruxism (teeth grinding)
If you grind your teeth at night or during the day, this causes the teeth to wear down over time exposing the sensitive middle layers of teeth. Grinding can also strain the surrounding supporting structures such as jaw muscles and jaw joint

Orthodontic assessments are often recommended around age 7, as this is when early signs of alignment or bite issues can be identified. However, the right time to begin treatment depends on your child’s individual development.
Treatment time varies depending on the complexity of the case, but most children wear braces for around 12 to 24 months. Regular visits and following care instructions help ensure steady progress.
Braces are not usually painful, but your child may feel mild discomfort or pressure after adjustments. This typically settles within a few days as the teeth begin to move.
Yes, but certain foods should be avoided to prevent damage. Hard, sticky, or chewy foods are best limited, especially during the early stages of treatment.
Good oral hygiene is essential. Children should brush carefully around brackets and wires, floss regularly, and attend dental check-ups to keep their teeth and gums healthy.
Yes, braces are highly effective in correcting bite issues such as overbite, underbite, and crossbite. Early treatment can also help guide proper jaw development.
Depending on age and dental needs, clear aligners may be an option for older children or teenagers. A consultation will help determine suitability.
After braces are removed, retainers are usually provided to keep teeth in their new position. Wearing them as instructed is important to maintain long-term results.
